so I've got AP tests coming up and decided to investigate something I've been wondering about for years: on questions with 5 answers, there are often two that are similar to one another, another set of two similar ones, and one that doesn't match the format of the rest of the answers. And I wanted to know, is the odd one out usually wrong?
That led me down a bit of a rabbithole on test-taking strategies. Here's what I've found, in no particular order:
Do the easiest questions first, then come back to ones that will take more time or effort. This helps you collect the most points you can, especially on a timed test.
Process of elimination really is the best method. Cross out answer choices that are obviously wrong to narrow down your options.
Cover up the answer choices until you've read the full question and have come to a vague answer. That way, you don't get distracted by an answer that sounds right when you read it, but you wouldn't have thought of on your own.
Come up with a symbol key for yourself, especially on paper exams. I like to put a slash through answer choices I think are wrong; put a horizontal line next to the question number of one I've answered but am not sure about, and make it longer depending on how unsure I am; and put a really thick line next to questions that I left unanswered, since those can sometimes be easy to miss when looking over the test on a second pass. Sometimes if it's a really long test with multiple pages, I'll list the unanswered or unsure numbers on the back or in a margin.
Mark up the prompt! Underline key words and take note of if a question is asking which statements ARE or ARE NOT true. If the latter confuses you, rewrite the prompt to be positive, mark off all the statements that are true, and the remaining choice will be false, a.k.a. not true.
Just because a question or answer has an absolute in it (like always or never) doesn't mean that question is automatically wrong. Just take a closer look: if it seems like something is usually true but there are exceptions, it can't be true always.
If one answer choice is "all of the above" or "none of the above," finding any one that is or isn't true can eliminate that option.
Sometimes there are multiple answers that could be right. However, you're trying to find the best right answer. If you could justify a choice but only with a long and convoluted explanation, that's probably not correct.
If there's one answer choice that's totally different from the others, chances are it's not right. Same with if there are two answer choices that are basically the same in meaning with just a few words changed.
The longest answer is usually correct. Test writers need to ensure that their correct answer isn't partially incorrect because of an ambiguity.
If an answer choice is partially wrong, it's all wrong. If you find yourself thinking, "This answer is right, except...," move on.
For tests without a guessing penalty (like all the AP tests), answer every question! Use process of elimination in the last two minutes you leave for yourself to just fill in bubbles.
If you're using a bubble sheet, make sure the answer you selected is colored in dark. I learned the hard way that scantrons don't like light shading.
Look at elements of the answers. For the question below, A and B can be eliminated because we know the mean is 1.5. C can be eliminated because it was originally subtracted (I marked it up). D can be eliminated because the formula for standard deviation for a difference in means states that both values need to be squared. Only E meets all the requirements, so E is correct.

Good luck everyone!

Meowdy Saint 😼
I got goth vibes and so does my AngelOC, Elodie. So it's funny to imagine this pink boy who is secretly an emo boy in disguise next to a wednesday addams esque babe lmao. Poor boy miscalculated, I like that there was an option to be like 'Oh I like that goth style' at the cafe.
But this raises a question! Would he drop the Ren persona and aesthetic if he realized it wasn't totally necessary?
⌞♥⌝ This has been answered multiple times in the past, but yes, he'd drop the light academia aesthetic if Angel wasn't into it! ^^
However, from a game dev standpoint, it'd be extremely difficult for me to include a bunch of types and aesthetics in hopes of making Ren's appearance feel more inclusive for everyone, so it's easier for me to say, "Oh, Angel likes this one anime character" and build the lore around that.
So, for those who like Ren's real appearance and would've preferred if he introduced himself as [REDACTED] (instead of his Haruko persona), I hear you!! ^^
But please understand that if that were the case, the 14DWY storyline would be a lot less interesting and would defeat the entire purpose of Ren's motives. A big part of his characterisation is that he's more than willing to alter every part of himself to become Angel's ideal type, and if their type happened to be [REDACTED], then it'd make the buildup to his reveal in Day ??? feel far less anticlimactic.
#💌 — answered.#💖 — 14 days with queue.#💖 — about ren.#kazefiend#Drawing Ren with multiple hairstyles is already A Lot™️ for me#so you can only imagine what will happen once [REDACTED] comes into da picture lmao#I don't think this is something players think about; but I have to draw both Ren AND [REDACTED] variations of CGs to compensate for—#—each choice the player makes. E.g: choosing long haired Ren but [REDACTED]'s fit; short haired Ren with his normal fit; normal hair with—#—[REDACTED]'s personality but Ren's normal fit; etc.#There's a lot goin on behind the scenes so I (unfortunately) can't add variations in outfit/personality styles#Sorry for ranting!! I get this question (and other very similar ones) a lot; but folks tend to skip over the pinned post T_T

if I asked very nicely would you all be willing to take a one minute anonymous survey for my linguistics class. if the answer is yes, please click here. thanks :)
(sharing for a better response size would also be very appreciated)
#linguistics#quil's unholy underworld#i have no clue how to tag this#it is quite literally 2 multiple choice questions#keeping it real simple#it's a required project in an intro class#we didn't even get to choose the topic#anyway#it's less important the results#it's intended to teach us the scientific method in practice#which I have done. like 5 times now in different classes it feels#i literally studied the demographic of the library by age an entire summer once#anyway. here's hoping this is worded and structured well enough to do what I need it to#take my survey boy#please

the fact that not only are they not answering the exam questions by rolling dice, but the players themselves have to actually know the answer and solve the question under a timer is so evil. incredible work brennan, you’ve really outdone yourself.

I mean to be honest if I were writing a multiple choice test for university students I would simply make sure that one of the available choices was the correct answer. And I would aim to do that for all the questions rather than just most of them. But I suppose that's the work ethic and attention to detail that I'm valued for around here.

crazy how the sanshee plush is one of the few actual direct confirmations on what a non-act 2 Natsuki’s home life is like because of how cagey she is on literally everything. Like this isn’t anything surprising or something you wouldn’t be able to extrapolate from the games but unlike everything else we know about her the implications are right there on the tin.
They literally did the character bio trope where where all the likes are normal but the dislikes are about their very specific trauma it’s just so funny they did that on the plushie card
#the thing is the rest of the bios are mostly normal it’s just this one with the yellong part why did they do that#idk if I’m stupid or forgot the yelling thing being shown directly in a non-act 2 context but I at least appreciate the confirmation#since I might just be mixing up fanon and canon considering 90% of what we know with Natsuki’s whole deal is interpolated from small tidbits#but like trying to understand anything about non act 2 Natsuki’s background is so funny because she doesn’t like to talk about anything#so all we know about her home life is by comparing her to act 2 and the secret poem plus psychoanalysing her thoughts and actions#is like the secret poem says Monika definitely made her dad worse but the problem is we don’t know how much#anyways and for all we know her dad could range from somewhat average dad to should be put on a watch list#and sometimes there’s dialogue like the one in self love about Natsuki worrying about her friends retaliation#and it’s probably meant to act as a confirmation to whether there’s physical abuse considering how out of left field the question is#but like it could be interpreted either way so it’s basically just Schrödinger’s physical abuse for no reason#I’m not criticizing or anything I think the characters being able to hold secrets is cool and ambiguity is awesome#and the choice to keep the ambiguous is intentional since the characters only share what their comfortable with#but I just need to vent about that one line in self love ok#like idk if I’m just stupid but there’s multiple interpretations but it’s seemingly both a decomfirmation and confirmation#idk it’s weird but her dad yelling at her enough to make it one of her dislikes is at least something in terms of actual evidence#damn it I put a paragraph in the tags again I’m sorry gang I’m not moving it#ddlc#doki doki literature club#tempestmothtalk

i cannot believe that there are people who still get upset about ship loyalty in 2024. i’m just putting my little guys into situations can you chill
#also like i’ve lowkey always thought it was insane to suggest you can’t love more than one person in your lifetime.#like someday you’re going to be an adult and you will have had multiple relationships. and you will have loved more than one person.#love isn’t like a multiple choice question with one right answer. i’ve loved multiple people and i will love more people in the future#and my past loves inform my life and how i will love in the future. it would be reductive of me to erase them or act like they don’t matter#anyway. all this to say that guy is INSANE lmfao#personal

not saying im doing this any time soon absolutely not but i think itd be interesting to conduct a monsterfucker survey that like, rather than giving limited multiple choice answers for people to pick from and boil down into data points, allowed people to describe themselves and their affections towards monstrosity in their own words to see if any similarities in experience like organically present themselves.
#ive also had someone suggest like a word cloud model#i just like. i think Some of the surveys ive seen circulating are interesting in what theyre attempting to do#but they ultimately feel rly incomplete#the answers you can give are srsly limited and the questions and subjects your supposed to be discussing are often ill defined#imo at best you miss out on a lot of potential nuance and valuable perspectives that fall outside the parameters op provides#at worst the multiple choice framework alone kinda forces ppl to misrepresent themselves/allow themselves to be misrepresented#in service of affirming ops biases#i know its Not That Deep but It Could Be#if we could only allow it to be... if we could only dream so big.....
